If, for whatever reason, you would like to draw a rock, read on to find out the secret to drawing rocks!
Steps
-
1Draw an oval. You may want to draw it flat on the bottom, to make to look like it's laying.
-
2Draw a horizon line coming out from the left and the right side of the rock. This shows the boundary between the earth and the sky.Advertisement
-
3To decorate your rock, you should draw hatch marks to show grass below the lines for ground. You could add a circle above the rock, or emerging out of your rock to show the sun. Add other things like birds, clouds or worms if you wish.
-
4Add shading for value change.

Community Q&A

QuestionHow do you decorate a rock step by step?Community AnswerDraw small creases on the rock. After that, shade in certain sections of the rock. If you want to be really impressive and innovative, draw the oval, and then instead of coloring it in, crosshatch it. Crosshatching is when you draw many small lines overlapping each other to make it look like stone.

QuestionHow do I draw a flat rock?Community AnswerTry drawing it with a flat side, and as always shading helps a great deal. Try to round out the side of the flat surface so it looks like it curve inward. You can also find a flat rock and use it for reference.
-
QuestionHow do I know what part of the rock to shade?Community AnswerYou know how to shade on the ground depending on where the sun is. The shaded portion of the rock should be the side that's facing away from the sun (wherever you choose to put it) since that's the part of the rock that wouldn't be receiving any light.
