How to Use the IMDb App

This wikiHow will teach you how to use the IMDb mobile app that's available for free from both the Google Play Store and App Store. Once the app is downloaded, open it, and you'll be prompted to log in or create and IMDb account, which is also free. Once you've created an account or logged in, you'll be able to watch videos, add things to your watchlist, and search for information on tv shows and movies.

Watching Trailers, Movies, and TV

Open IMDb. This app icon looks like the letters "IMDb" on a yellow background that you'll find on one of your Home screens, in the app drawer, or by searching.
- If this is your first time opening the app, your phone will prompt you to use Location Services. If you want to receive accurate location-based information (such as movie playing times at your local theaters), make sure to allow this feature.
- You'll also be prompted to log in or create a free IMDb account to use the app easily.

Tap Video. This text is with a play button icon in the bottom of your screen.

Tap the trailer, movie, or show you want to watch. You'll be able to pick from recent and popular trailers as well as different categories, like drama or comedy, for movies and shows.
- There is also a selection of interviews, news clips, casting calls, awards and events, and IMDb exclusive videos to watch.

Adding to Your Watchlist

Open IMDb. This app icon looks like the letters "IMDb" on a yellow background that you'll find on one of your Home screens, in the app drawer, or by searching.
- You'll also be prompted to log into your IMDb account to access your watchlist.

Find shows or movies that you want to watch. You can tap the play button icon at the bottom of your screen to see IMDb's selection of things to watch or you can browse the Home tab.
- There are sections like "Fan Favorites" and "Explore what's streaming" on the Home tab that show you what you can add to your watch list as well as different movies and shows in the Video tab.

Tap + in the thumbnail of the video you want to add to your watchlist. You can add shows that you can watch on Amazon Prime, Showtime, HBO, Hulu, and Starz as well as shows that are in your local movie theaters so you can remember to see them.

Tap Search. This text is at the bottom of your screen with a magnifying glass icon.

Search movies, streaming & tv, celebs, awards & events, or the community. You can browse through the search categories such as the top box office list, or you can use the search bar at the top of your screen to type in a search term.
- Double-click the magnifying glass icon to pull up your phone or tablet's keyboard.
