If you don't have access to a mobile phone, you can still send and receive texts using your computer. As long as you have a recipient's phone number and carrier, you'll be able to text them with your email account or with a free text website. Alternatively, you can use a messaging program such as Apple's Messages on Mac or Google Messages for Android. If you want to use a unique number, you can use Google Voice. This wikiHow will show you how to send texts using an email, website, and messaging program.

1Open your email program or service. You can use any preferred email.

3Enter the phone number as the beginning of the address, including the area code. Don't include any dashes.
