How to Get Rotom on Pokémon Diamond

Rotom is a hard to obtain Pokémon. Starting in Pokémon Platinum Version, it can switch between various forms, which can give it a few extra moves it can use.

Steps

Get the National Dex and go to Old Chateau.

Go up the stairs and into the top middle room.

Enter the first room on the left; there's a TV inside.

If it is after 8.00 pm press "A" in front of the TV. The game will ask if you want to thump it: say yes. You will get into battle.

Battle and try to catch Rotom. Be careful not to let it faint!

What if a wild Rotom accidentally faints? Could I try again?

Nope. Sorry, but most one-time Pokemon (such as Rotom, Heatran, and the Lake Guardians) will never show back up again if you accidentally knock them out. Newer games do address this, but as Diamond is an older game, your best bet is to either get a Rotom through a trade or reset your game entirely.

Yes. If you have a lot of time to spare and have quick hands, considering you'll have to do a lot of trying and reseting before catching one.

Do I need a National Pokedex to get Rotom in Diamond version?

Yes. Until you receive the National Pokedex, you will not be able to encounter Rotom. This holds true for Pearl as well, but not for Platinum, where you can battle Rotom as soon as you can reach it (assuming it is night).
