  1. The patron does not buy the technique but the finished product. For quick, more free-form drawing one might try to use very large paper, chalk or high number soft lead pencil and draw using the whole arm and even body in broad sweeping motions. This is a very real thing. As an artist myself, when I am almost done with a project or even a simple sketch, I tend to find a lot of things wrong with my art. Then, I go back in and try to change things and it usually makes my art look bad. This is what they mean by "Artist's Disease."

The main thing you probably want to work on is line steadiness. You can do line steadiness exercises any time when you have free time during the day. This involves just drawing series of straight lines, arcs, spirals, zig-zags, etc. Over and over. You can look up line steadiness exercises online to see examples. It isn't very exciting, but it will be the quickest way to go from drawing messy, shaky lines to clean and confident lines.
  • Question
I will start a piece as something quick and simple and end up putting hours into it and it becomes a long tedious project. The end result often looks nice, but it takes far longer than I want it to. What can I do?

There really isn't a way to speed up an art process. You can't just wave a magic wand and get a finished piece. Art takes time and dedication. Find a way to enjoy the process.
