How to Craft a Diamond Sword in Minecraft

This article will teach you how to craft a sword made of diamond in Minecraft. You can do this on desktop, mobile, and console versions of Minecraft.

Method 1

Method 1 of 4:

On Desktop

Gather the necessary materials. To create a diamond sword in Minecraft, you will need the following items:^{[1]

- 2 diamonds — You can find diamonds in between layers 5 and 16 of the world (for reference, sea level is layer 62). To mine diamonds, you'll need either an iron pickaxe or a diamond pickaxe.^{[2]

- 1 wood block — Found growing as a part of any tree in the game.
- 1 Crafting Table — If you don't have a Crafting Table, make one and place it on the ground before proceeding.

Convert the wood blocks into planks. You can do this in your inventory:
- Press E to open your inventory.
- Click once the wooden block, then click any box in the crafting section of your inventory.

Convert the planks into sticks. You can create sticks from the planks by doing the following in your inventory:
- Click the resulting stack of four wooden planks.
- Right-click twice one of the bottom boxes in the crafting section.
- Right-click twice the box above the box with the two planks in it.

Place the sticks in your inventory. Hold down ⇧ Shift while clicking the resulting sticks to move them into your inventory.

Open your Crafting Table. Press Esc to exit the inventory if it's still open, then find your Crafting Table and right-click it. Doing so opens the Crafting Table.

Place the sticks in the bottom-center box. Click the stack of sticks, then click the bottom-center box in the Crafting Table.
- You'll only use one stick in the creation process, so you'll need to move the remaining stack of sticks back to your inventory after you create your sword.

Place a diamond in the middle-center box. Click the stack of diamonds in your inventory, then right-click the middle-center box in the Crafting Table.

Place another diamond in the top-center box. Right-click the top-center box in the Crafting Table to do so. At this point, the entire middle column of the Crafting Table should be full, and a blue sword icon should appear to the right of the Crafting Table's boxes.

Move the completed diamond sword into your inventory. Hold down ⇧ Shift while clicking the sword icon to do so.
- You can also move the remaining sticks back to your inventory in this way.

On Mobile

Gather the necessary materials. To create a diamond sword in Minecraft, you will need the following items:

Tap ⋯. It's at the bottom of the screen, just right of the equip bar. Your inventory will open.

Tap the "Crafting" icon. It's a brown box with a grid on it in the lower-right side of the screen.

Add your wood block to the "Crafting" grid. Tap the wood block, then tap any one of the boxes in the "Crafting" section.

Tap the stack of four crates. They'll appear below the "Crafting" section. Doing so adds them to your inventory.

Tap the "Search" tab. It's a magnifying glass-shaped icon on the left side of the screen.

Tap the stick icon. This brown, diagonal icon is in the left-hand pane. Doing so adds it to the bottom of the "Crafting" section.
- You may have to scroll up or down on the left-hand pane to find the stick icon.

Tap twice the sticks below the "Crafting" section. This will add 8 sticks to your inventory.

Close the inventory. Tap X in the top-right corner of the screen to do so.

Open the Crafting Table. Find your Crafting Table and tap it to open it.

Tap the "Search" tab. It's the magnifying glass icon on the left side of the screen. Doing so brings up a list of craftable resources in the left-hand pane.

Tap the diamond sword icon. This blue sword is in the left-hand pane, though you may have to scroll up or down to see it.

Add the diamond sword to your inventory. Tap the diamond sword below the "Crafting" grid to do so.

On Consoles

Make sure you aren't using the Bedrock Edition. If you're on an Xbox One and you're using the Bedrock Edition of Minecraft (e.g., not the "Minecraft Xbox One Edition" version), you need to follow the Bedrock Edition on Xbox One instructions instead.

Create crates. The crate icon should be selected upon opening the crafting menu. Scroll down until you find the crate that matches the type of wood you got earlier, then press either A (Xbox) or X (PlayStation) to select it.

Convert the crates into sticks. Select the stick icon to the right of the crates, then press A or X to create a stack of sticks.

Close the crafting menu. Press B or circle to do so.

Open your Crafting Table. Find the Crafting Table, face it, and press the left trigger on your controller to open it.

Select the "Tools and Weapons" tab. Press the RB or R1 button once to scroll over to this tab.

Select the sword icon. You'll find it toward the right side of the "Tools and Weapons" menu.

Scroll down and select the diamond sword. You'll find this blue sword near the bottom of the menu. Selecting it will add it to your inventory.

Hold a diamond or iron pickaxe. To mine for emeralds, you need to dig up the emerald ore with a diamond pickaxe or iron pickaxe. Other tools will not dig up the emerald ore to make an emerald.

If you are on Pocket Edition, you simply tap the door, on consoles though, you use the button for placing stuff down, as well as opening things.

Warnings

Do not dig straight down to find diamonds. You can easily fall into lava.
