How to Spare Undyne in Undertale (Pacifist or Neutral Route)

It is amazing how difficult the Pacifist / Neutral Route can be while playing Undertale! However, this guide is here to make your experience with battling Undyne on this route go a little bit more swimmingly (pun intended).

Steps

Understand the green soul mode. This is the mode you will be fighting Undyne in. In this mode, your soul cannot move. It has a spear, given to you by Undyne, to block her attacks.

Enter Undyne's arena to begin your encounter.

Wait for Undyne to attack you. This will happen soon after you go into the arena. Your soul mode will be red.
- Soul mode red is the default soul mode. It allows you to move along the fighting box with the arrow keys without any restraint.
- Undyne will turn your soul to the green mode with a spear.

Block her attacks. To do this you move the arrow keys to move your spear. The top arrow shields the top of your soul, etc. You must block six attacks.
- After six attacks, she will turn your soul to the red soul mode again. Take this advantage to flee. When you escape, run as fast and far away from Undyne as you can.

Run until Undyne catches you. You will enter another fight. Luckily, for this fight, you must only block four attacks before you can flee.

Run until Undyne catches you again, and for the last time. Block eight attacks and flee. While you are running, you will get a call from Papyrus.
- Undyne will not move during this call. After that, keep running until you reach Hotland and then you will have successfully spared Undyne.

If you ignore her fainting and walk on, if you go back to her home and talk to Papyrus, he will say she got heatstroke and is resting - and mutter about destroying you. Also, you go from pacifist to neutral.

Once you enter the Hotlands, Sans will appear at one of his hot dog stands. When you pass him, Undyne will stop to look at him for a moment, giving you more time to run away. After a few seconds, she will notice that you are getting away and continue chasing after you. She will not be able to catch you again due to her pause. Once you cross the bridge, Undyne will start to slow down, and say, "Armor... so... hot..." and she will faint right on the bridge. Conveniently, there is a water dispenser right there, so you will have the option to either give her the water, or to just leave her be. If you choose to give her the water, she will get back up and walk away, saying nothing.

Flee from Undyne when you have the chance. If you don't, the attacks will get faster and faster, while the attacks' speed will reset when you flee.
