Placing blocks is a huge part of Minecraft. Unfortunately, it's not always intuitive how certain blocks will be placed. Here is a guide to help you learn to place those tricky blocks.
Steps
Method 1
Method 1 of 3:
Same-Sided Blocks
Method 2
Method 2 of 3:
Vertically-Locked Blocks
-
1Select in your hotbar the block you want to place.
-
2If the 4 sides of the block are the same, but the top (and possibly bottom) are different, the block might be vertically-locked.
- This means the block can only be placed with the top and bottom facing up and down.
-
3Place your block by right-clicking, being sure you know which sides are going to be showing.

Method 3 of 3:
Player-Oriented Blocks
-
1Select in your hotbar the block you want to place.
-
2If the block has 1 side that interacts with the environment, it might be player-oriented.
- Examples are logs or quartz pillars.
-
3Stand so that the part that interacts with the environment (which will always appear facing you) will be placed the direction you want.
- If you want something to face up or down, you might have to pillar up or dig down.
-
4Right-click to place your block.
-
5If the block is placed incorrectly (faces up instead of forward, for example), simply break the block and replace it.

QuestionMy sister's Minecraft keeps lagging and crashing. What can I do to help?Community AnswerWhile deleting and reinstalling Minecraft may help, there are other things you can do. You can close other programs and apps you aren't using or turn on game mode if that's an option available on your device. You can also go to Minecraft settings and turn down the quality of the game and turn off or reduce things like render distance, particles, clouds, shadows, etc., to help the game run faster. Also, if you're on Java Edition, installing Optifine can help.
