Grappa is a traditional Italian liquor that is made from the husks of grapes leftover from wine-making. It has a much higher alcohol content than wine, and you can find a variety of different types of grappa. Young grappas are not aged and they have a mild, fruity flavor. Old grappas are aged 12 months or longer and they have more intense flavors than young grappas. Italians traditionally drink grappa at the end of a heavy meal to help with digestion, but grappa also works well in some cocktails.
