Learn how to draw an octagon (eight cornered polygon) following these simple steps!
Steps
Regular Octagon
-
1Draw a large circle at the center of the page.[1]
-
2Draw a straight horizontal line splitting the circle to equal parts.Advertisement
-
3Draw a straight vertical line (also splitting the circle to equal parts) of which its center will intersect with that of the horizontal line.[2]
-
4Draw a straight diagonal line (northwest to southeast) that will also intersect at the center, dividing equally the space between the horizontal and vertical lines.[3]
-
5Draw another diagonal line (northeast to southwest) that will also intersect at the center, dividing equally the space between the horizontal and vertical lines.[4] By now you will have an image resembling an eight-spoke wheel.
-
6Connect the tips of these spokes with straight lines.[5]
-
7Erase the circle, leaving behind the newly formed octagon.
-
8Erase the lines inside the octagon.
-
9You now have a regular octagon! Color the drawing as desired.
Multiple Octagon
-
1Draw a square at the center of the page.
-
2Draw straight lines that will connect one corner to its direct opposite corner.
-
3Note the length between the center point (where the lines intersects) towards one of the square's corners. On each of the square's corners, use this length as the radius as you draw a circle, using the square's corner as the circle's center. You will end up with a flower-like image.
-
4Notice the point where the circle and square intersects. Connect these points with straight lines to form the octagon.
-
5Remove the square shape, leaving behind the circles, the lines that intersected, and the newly formed octagon. Use the lines (now forming an “X”) and the circle's intersections as your guide in making multiple and smaller octagons within the initial octagon.
-
6Erase the “X” shape.
-
7Erase the circles.
-
8You now have multiple octagons! Color the drawing if desired.

QuestionHow do I draw a Bagua?PhishtacheoCommunity AnswerDraw an octagon in the center of a bigger octagon, then connect the points of the two octagons directly. After that, add your own details.

QuestionHow do I draw a 30' square inside a 50' octagon?Community AnswerAn octagon is a polygon that has eight sides. Generally, when most people think of the word "octagon," they're thinking of a regular octagon - one that has both sides and angles of the same size (like the shape of most stop signs). It's easy to make an accurate octagon in a variety of ways that require only basic materials - see Step 1 below to get started.

QuestionCan I draw multiple octagons?Community AnswerYes, you can.

About This Article
To draw an octagon, start by drawing a large circle with a horizontal and vertical line inside of it that's splitting the circle into 4 equal parts. Then, draw 2 diagonal lines that intersect at the center of the circle and split it up into 8 equal parts. Next, draw a straight line between the ends of each neighboring set of lines in the circle to create an octagon. Finally, erase the circle and the lines inside of the octagon.
