Vacation plans don't always go as expected and you may need to cancel your hotel reservations. If you booked your reservations through Expedia, it means that you probably already paid for your room. Luckily, if you are canceling within the hotel's cancellation deadline, there's a good chance that you can get a refund. You can cancel through Expedia's website or by calling their customer support line.
Steps
Canceling Your Hotel Booking Online
-
1Locate your itinerary number in your Expedia confirmation email. When you booked the hotel reservation, you should have received an email from Expedia that lists your reservation details and itinerary number. Have this email ready to make it easier to cancel your reservation.
-
2Click “My Trips” on https://www.expedia.com. The “My Trips” link will be on the top right of the Expedia homepage. Clicking the link will bring you to a sign-in page that will allow you to access your vacation details.[1]Advertisement
-
3Sign into your account. Use the email address and password that you used to book the flight to log into your account. You can also use your email address and itinerary number if you don’t remember the password that you created. Click “Submit” to log into your account and view your itineraries.
-
4Click “Upcoming Trips” tab and click on your hotel booking. Find your hotel reservation in the “Upcoming Trips” tab. Once you find it, click it to view the details of your reservation.
- Read your itinerary to see if it’s refundable or a non-refundable. This will let you know whether you can get your money back.
- Most hotel room reservations are fully refundable as long as you cancel before the hotel’s cancellation deadline.
- If you have a non-refundable reservations, you may still be able to cancel and get a refund within a 24-hour period. Read the "Terms of Service" to get the exact details for your reservation.
-
5Click “Cancel Room” on the right-hand side of the screen. Once you access the itinerary for the reservation, there should be 2 options on the right side of the screen to cancel or change your reservation. Click “Cancel Room” to go to the room cancellation page.[2]
- Click “Change” to change details of your reservation instead of canceling.
- Contact the hotel directly to make certain changes like smoking preference, bed type, or handicap access.[3]
-
6Finalize the cancellation by clicking “Cancel This Room.” Pressing the yellow “Cancel This Room” button on the right side of the screen will finalize your cancellation. Once you click it, you’ll be brought to a page that will display the details of your cancellation.[4]
- It may take up to 7 business days for the refund to be transferred to your account.[5]
Calling Expedia to Change or Cancel Your Reservation

-
2Call 800-397-3342 in the USA or +1 404-728-8787 internationally. Use +1 404-728-8787 if you are calling from outside of the U.S. Use a touch-tone phone or cellphone to call the support line.
-
3Follow the automated prompt directions. Once you connect to the phone number, you’ll be directed to an automated system. Choose the language you want to use, then hit 4 to go to cancel your hotel reservation. Once you hit 4, you'll have to enter your itinerary number into your phone.
Troubleshooting Problems
-
1Directly contact the hotel if you can’t cancel through Expedia. There may be some circumstances where you’ll need to cancel your reservations through the hotel that you’re staying at rather than with Expedia, even if you used Expedia to get the reservation. In this case, find the hotel’s phone number and call them. Speak to a customer service representative and tell them that you’d like to cancel your hotel reservation.[7]
-
2Contact Expedia online to ask questions. Visit https://www.expedia.com/service/ and click "Contact Us." This will bring you to a web form that you can use to ask Expedia a question about your hotel reservation. If you have any issues canceling your reservation, you can use this page to contact them.[8]
-
3Send Expedia a direct message through social media as an alternative. You can send a direct message to Expedia by visiting them on Twitter at https://twitter.com/Expedia. Click the envelope icon to send them a direct message and explain your cancellation situation. If you'd rather use Facebook, you can visit https://www.facebook.com/expedia/. Send them a message through the chat box on the bottom right of the page if you're using Facebook.
- You need to have an account set up to send a direct message.
