Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea (or, "Gake no Ue no Ponyo") is a 2008 movie directed by Hayao Miyazaki about a young boy, Sousuke, who finds a strange fish that he names "Ponyo".

The story follows a young boy, Sousuke, who finds a strange fish that he names "Ponyo". Unfortunately, Ponyo decides to stay with Sousuke, giving up her underwater life, which causes an ancient magic spell to be broken.
The movie was released in theatres in July 2008 and won several awards, including the Japan Academy Prize for Animation of the Year.
