Melty Blood (メルティブラッド, Meruti Buraddo) is a fighting game / visual novel, released in 2002 at Comiket 63 by Type-Moon and French-Bread. Melty Blood is sort of a spinoff from Tsukihime (for which see tsukihime) which follows the cut Satsuki Yumizuka Route of Tsukihime and the events of Kagetsu Tohya.
Melty Blood follows Sion Eltnam Atlasia, an Alchemist of Atlas, who encounters Tohno Shiki during his investigation into a new series of murders in Misaki. Sion initially fights Shiki to capture him in order to get in contact with the "True Ancestor" (referring to Arcueid) to acquire information for a cure for vampirism. Shiki decided to join Sion in her search being interested in the cure to help his friend.
Melty Blood has been released several times with each iteration adding more characters to the cast and added story modes which expand the original game (see Krazer's Answer). The games were originally released in Japan however Mirror Moon has released English Translation patches for most of the series.
