The series tells the story of Sena Kobayakawa, an introverted boy who joins the American football club. Initially, Sena joins the club as secretary, but after being coerced by Hiruma, the team's quarterback, turns out to play wearing an eyeshield to hide his identity and the number 21, under the name of "Eyeshield 21".
The manga, released in July 2002, spanned 37 volumes and the anime TV series adaptation started airing in April 2005. The anime was directed by Masayoshi Nishida and produced by Studio Gallop. Additionally, 2 OVA episodes were also produced.
