I assume if you're reading this, you probably, at some point, watched this obscure anime about a middle-aged magical girl who is basically afraid to grow up and even after marriage won't kiss anyone for fear of losing her powers (even though she sleeps with them, apparently). I'll link this page about the show which aired in 2005 and had the same director as Azumanga Daioh and same character designer as Revolutionary Girl Utena, but I don't know if I can be any more clear than the title - are the people (other than the magical girls) including the protagonist all fake?
The place they live in, Wonderland, is clearly stated to be a false world created by magic, but the first episode has Tatsumi, the male lead, move to Wonderland (which is on the surface a normal coastal town) from somewhere that looked like a normal city. Moreover, he already had a job lined up there. Also in episode 8, it's clearly expressed that if Wonderland is changed due to the transfer of guardianship to a new "administrator", one of the female (middle-aged magical girl) lead's friends, another middle-aged former magical girl's young daughter will disappear, along with the rest of the town.
It may be impossible to know, but if anyone has any insight, it would be great to know if all the people in town, including the male lead, are all fake magically created people - because it does not seem that the world (dimension?) the magical girls come from - Realm - has any sort of governance over what we consider to be the reality of our (the reader's / viewer's) world, so it is implied that "wonderland" is simply an oasis town of sorts created for unknown reasons, by way of magic, where these people of undetermined origin live and go about their lives in the midst of retired (and not so retired) magical girls.
It has me wondering if this is just a super janky plot, or if there is something going on in the Japanese dialogue that I'm not following. Either way thanks for taking this trip back almost 20 years into obscurity to try and help me understand what in the heck is going on with this show.
