In the Election arc, Ging confidently tells Pariston that Gon won't die. Sure, he has trust in Gon's friends, but Gon's condition was like nothing ever seen before. Even if he has good friends, it doesn't mean they can help heal him. I'm not sure why Ging would be so confident in something so baseless.

How would he know this?

  • Can't remember if there's an explanation in the manga but he's Gon's dad. Not saying it's true for all father-son relationships but in my experience, a father would always believe that his son would make it through whatever happens in life. A father is not the first one who'd say 'I don't think my son's gonna make it', even if the situation seems hopeless. – W. Are Jun 15 '19 at 23:36

Well, it is intuition. The more powerful/nen expert a person gets, the more intuitive he gets. Experience also counts as one factor.

If you remember the time during Gon returning to Whale Island after the Hunter Exam with Killua, he received Greed Island contents from Mito which was given by Ging.

Now here,

  1. How did Ging know that Gon would attend the Hunter exam?
  2. How did he know if Gon would qualify underground exam and learn nen?
  3. How would he know how the Zodiacs would react in the presidential election (after Netero's death)?

This shows how experienced and intuitive he is. As said by Bisky that Netero regards Ging as one of the 5 best nen users in the world.

Similarly, Ging knew Gon would not die.

  • It was all left in accordance to a plan that if he ever wanted to search for him he could trace him. If he didn't want to, Ging's plan would have never unfolded. –  Jul 16 '19 at 17:43

It runs in the family. When Jing was younger, he did some pretty risky things himself. So it's a gut-feeling for him that Gon won't die.

According to Fandom Wiki about Ging Freecss,

Genius-Level Intellect: Ging is arguably one of the most intelligent characters of the series. He has foreseen most of Gon's choices and actions since leaving home, including his participation in the Hunter Exam, his journey to Greed Island and his meeting with Kite. He also guessed correctly what the process to decide the rules of the election would be and ensured his own would win, outmaneuvering the rest of the Zodiacs. His predictions regarding the election for the new chairman of the Hunter Association were accurate and even Cheadle, despite disliking him and being extremely smart herself, asked him for advice. He manipulated Leorio, a person he knew nothing of, so that he could become a hindrance to Pariston's victory, which he did. Furthermore, when Ging got rid of the Nen users from Muherr's party at the underground level and was going back up to the castle, he pointed out to Pariston that if he wants to see his abilities he has to come at him rather than building up badly designed self-serving scenarios, showing his superiority as a battle analyst even in times of conflict. It can be affirmed that Ging's preeminent mental skills are his deductive intelligence, quickness of mind and versatility. Ging is a polymath since he has extensive knowledge in various fields of academic studies. However, he claims that he studies subjects that interest him only.

Ging is also able to correctly guess someone's natural Nen type the instant after they had used an ability, as he did with Muherr's henchmen, which implies he may have learned or developed his own system to identify different Nen users; though he was unable to identify the guns as not being conjured by the henchmen themselves. Ging's knowledge in Nen also allows him to identify Golem as a symbiotic Nen user upon the first impression.

I am sure he knows the Nen abilities of Gon as well.
